Our Mission

We believe in greater accessibility of primary source material to encourage the research, education, and commemoration of the World Wars.

Millions of wartime primary source documents exist in the vaults of museums, archives, and special collections around the world… but obstacles like travel costs, distance, and time often prevent researchers from accessing them. We understand. Project Archive was founded by historians who have experienced firsthand the challenges of conducting in-person primary source research. So we designed a platform that not only makes it easier to access archival material, but revolutionizes the way you interact with it.

Why?

  • To help you write history. The global conflicts of 1914-1945 continue to shape the world we live in today. At Project Archive, we believe continued study of the World Wars will produce scholarship that helps us better understand the social, political, and economic legacy of these cataclysmic events.

Do More with Digitized Material

Project Archive’s unique interface lets users view, annotate, organize, and store primary sources indefinitely; and discover new material through AI-assisted file suggestions.

And when you’re finished? Project Archive auto-generates a bibliography of the sources referenced in your research.

  • No more time limits in research rooms
  • No more ordering documents in advance
  • No more disorganized boxes
  • No more sparse online catalogs

Who We Help

Reimagining the traditional approach to studying military history

RESEARCHERS

Project Archive helps bridge the gap between leading archival institutions and people who want to learn from their collections — whether you’re a student, instructor, professional historian, or simply curious about First and Second World War history.

Use Project Archive’s database for:

  • Research papers
  • Family history
  • Lesson plans
  • Theses or dissertations
  • Blogging
  • Podcasting
  • Filmmaking

INSTITUTIONS

Museums, memorials, libraries, and research repositories use Project Archive to widen the reach of their collections.

By connecting institutions with more people in the scholarly community, we help generate additional streams of revenue for the preservation, maintenance, and expansion of archival collections around the world. Each time a document gets viewed or used in Project Archive’s database, we share a portion of the revenue with the institution who owns it.
